Which certification should I start with?

Most people start with CGE-AUD, then CGE-P. CGE-AZ requires CGE-P.

The Academy has three live certifications:

CertificationWhat it coversCapstonePrerequisite
CGE-AUD (Auditor Specialty)Cloud, code, pipeline, and evidence literacy for auditors. No coding background neededNoNone
CGE-P (Practitioner)Building automated compliance: Terraform, policy as code, evidence pipelines, cloud security services, OSCALYesNone
CGE-AZ (Azure Specialty)The Practitioner skills applied to AzureYesCGE-P certified

Our recommendation

  • New to engineering, or coming from audit or compliance: start with CGE-AUD. It is shorter, has no capstone, and its Git chapter makes the CGE-P labs much easier.
  • Comfortable in a terminal already: go straight to CGE-P.
  • Already CGE-P certified and working in Azure: take CGE-AZ.

Not sure where you fit? The Where Do I Start tool asks four questions and builds you an ordered roadmap. The Tech Stack tool walks you through installing the tools the labs use.

Each certification has a free study guide and exam blueprint:
